Skooter reports 12/20/12

It is expected that the so called doomsday falls on Friday, and the people who lives in this Serbian mountain region are cashing in while they are still able.

Nebojsa Gajic, manager of the 160-bed, Communist-era Millennium Hotel sets on the slopes of Mount Rtanj said that they’re booked out December 20-23. They have a New Age convention and guests are coming because of the end of the world.

It was known that the region is selling itself like bubblegum because locals say is the best place to survive the looming apocalypse which will fall on December 21, basing on mystics whose calculations depend on the ending of an era in the 5,125-year-old Mayan calendar.

The tale was based on its promise on the mystical powers that locals say have flooded the area since its pyramid-shaped mountain devoured a castle belonging to a wealthy sorcerer, trapping him inside.

Mount Rtanj is about 250 km (155 miles) east of the capital Belgrade, towards Bulgaria, and is part of the Carpathian range and famed in Serbia for its herbal tea, pristine nature and clean air.

Similar to the French Pyrenean village of Bugarach, which is secured by another magical mountain, Rtanj is proffering salvation from Friday's catastrophe and safe passage into a golden age.

People in the region say they have been swamped with enquiries from Serbia and abroad.

Darko Jovic, manager of the Balasevic hotel said that they're fully booked. People were even calling from the United States and they had to say 'No'. He said he couldn't even get a room for his own mother and sister.

The on-going rate for private accommodation had gone up to 500 Euros ($660) per night, the Serbian daily Blic reported.

Rtanj appeared to be quite, a Reuters reporting crew said, but bulldozers were clearing the roads of snow in preparation for the expected invasion.

The sorcerer still lives in the mountain, according to locals and that there have been sightings of fireballs floating above Rtanj's foggy peak.

Physicists have recorded magnetic inconsistencies in the area, which is peppered with deserted coal-mine shafts since the 19th century, Serbian media reported.

Dragan Milenkovic, 65, retired show-business promoter said the mountain, with its unusual pyramid shape, was built by aliens who would return on Friday.

Milenkovic told Reuters that on December 21, on the summit of Rtanj, we'll see a beautiful violet and red light that will engulf the planet for about five seconds and the aliens will come. That will mark the beginning of a golden era that will last 1,345 years, he said.

There are always people who are not convinced like for example a 36-year-old nurse Dragana Djordjevic said that for him, doomsday comes every month when he have to cover monthly expenses of 300 Euros with a salary of 250 Euros and a family of three to feed.

($1 = 0.7568 euros)
