More than 700 cycling enthusiasts, along with Fort Lauderdale Mayor, John P. “Jack” Seiler, joined together for the 11th annual “Inlet Challenge Bicycle Ride,” presented by Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida and Zimmerman Advertising. The event raised $200,000 for Kids In Distress of Broward (KID) and Palm Beach counties.
“Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida is proud to have been a sponsor of the Kids In Distress ‘Inlet Challenge’ and to have helped this wonderful organization reach its goal of $200,000, which will directly benefit the many children in need,” said Stephen Power of Southern Wine & Spirits.
Hosted by KID, the at-your-own-pace outdoor scenic ride along A1A from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach invited cyclists to choose one of four distances: the Century (100 miles), the Metric Century (62.5 miles), the Half Metric (31 miles) or the Beach Cruiser (15 miles). In addition to the registration fee, each rider made a pledge commitment of a $150 minimum by reaching out to family, friends and other supporters.
“We are so appreciative of zMotion, Southern Wine & Spirits, Mayor Seiler and George Fussel for their support this year,” said CEO and President of Kids In Distress, Mark Dhooge. “It takes $200,000 each year to feed all of the children in our care, so this is certainly a wonderful accomplishment and a terrific way to end the year.”
KID of Broward and Palm Beach works to prevent child abuse, preservation of family and care and treatment of abused and neglected children. The organization partners with corporations, organizations, municipalities, schools and individuals to provide basic services to the underserved population in South Florida.
