Peshawar has been rocked by bomb blasts of late

Jamrud bazaar car blast kills 17 and injured more than sixty. Fourty five critically wounded were rushed to Peshawar Complex hospital where some of them have been reported serious, hospital and administration sources told. Women and children were also among the killed, sources said. Twenty one cars and seven shops have been destroyed in the car bomb blast. Explosive material had been placed in a car which had been reportedly parked in front of a market near the compound of the political administration and a women waiting point here on Monday at about 10 am, local sources informed. Fire flames and black smoke went up from the site after the blast in Jamrud bazaar.

A car laden with explosive material went off near the offices of the Jamrud political administration and in front of a market where mechanics repair the broken vehicles. The explosion was so huge and powerful that was heard in the far flung areas in Jamrud sub-division of Khyber Agency. Security forces and Khasadar Force personnel rushed to the site soon after the explosion that killed seventeen persons including women and children. Some media sources said that four women were reportedly killed in the explosion whereas two students were also among the killed ones. More than sixty persons were reported wounded and fourty five of them were taken to Peshawar based Complex hospital where many have been reported to be in critical condition. Sources also said that twenty one cars and seven shops were badly destroyed in the car bomb blast. The wounded persons were taken to Peshawar because of the lack of the facilities in Jamrud civil hospital, sources said.

Security forces cordoned off the area and also opened aerial firing to disperse the people so as to avoid casualties in the possibly another follow up blast in the area. The Pak Afghan highway and Jamrud bazaar were also closed as a precautionary measures. The fire fighters, volunteers of Al-Khidmat Foundation and ambulances besides, the local volunteers rushed to the site to rescue the injured persons of the blast. Many suspected persons were arrested from Jamrud bazaar but the authorities have not confirmed it.

The top administrator of Khyber Agency political agent Motahir Zeb and his subordinates visited the site of the blast and reviewed the situation. “The terrorists can not demoralize the people, government and security forces through carrying out such deadliest actions”, PA Khyber observed, saying the military operations would be continued. He said that car blast was the result of the military operation in the area but operation would be kept on until the situation is totally brought under the control and peace restored in the area, particularly in Bara and Jamrud. PA Khyber strongly condemned the attack and assured every possible support to the injured ones, saying the victims would be compensated at the earliest. Till filling this report, any militant group has not claimed responsibility for the car blast in Jamrud.

This is to be recalled that major terror incidents have occurred in Jamrud sub-division of Khyber Agency in the past as two mosques one at Begyari check post and another mosque at Mado Khel areas were also blown up during prayers’times, where hundreds of people in both incidents had been killed. One car blast had happened in the main Jamrud bazaar which had killed more than sixty persons mostly hailing from Bazar Zakha khel. Major terror incidents have occurred in Jamrud and Landikotal bazaars in the past, which shows that the law and order situation is still very fragile and not satisfactory. People are afraid both in Jamrud and Landikotal keeping in view the bomb explosions and IEDs blasts on the main Pak Afghan highway. Social and political figures of Khyber Agency have strongly condemned the incident in Jamrud bazaar and have urged the government to take precautionary measures to protect the lives and properties of the civilians.
