Peshawar is frequently hit by attacks

An unprecedented barrage of rocket attacks have hit Peshawar airport killing five and injuring 21 people, according to reports. Bacha Khan International Airport was sealed after bullets and rocket rained from unknown locations. It was hard to nail the exact location from where the attacks were being targeted.

Security forces have sealed the airport and all roads leading to the airport have been blocked. Some of the rockets are reported to have hit the residential areas in Peshawar. Most of the rocket attacks have taken place inside the airport.

According to latest reports, the attacks were followed by intense firing and security forces retaliated by firing back at the terrorists. So far, hospitals have reported two bodies and thirty injured in the firing. Almost all the injured are civilians hit by shrapnel from the rockets and bullets.

According to inputs from television channels, Pakistani troops exchanged fire with the suspected militants for forty minutes after the rockets landed at the airport. While no group have claimed responsibility for the attacks, the Pakistan Taliban is suspected to be responsible. The Pakistani army has cordoned off the airport and search operation is on to ascertain if any militants have entered the airport.
