And here are a few top scandals of 2012 that are from countries other than the US – like Kate’s topless pictures, strip poker of Prince Harry, and condoms in South Africa that leaked, a Russian ‘punk-band’ that defied Putin etc.
Condoms that leaked like sieves 31/1/2012 – It was embarrassment to the power of infinity when South Africa distributed millions of free condoms on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the ANC.
Unfortunately, these had to be hastily recalled because those millions of freebies were leaking like sieves.
The condoms had been packed in 8700 boxes and the boxes had the official markings of South African Bureau of Standards.
South Africa is a country with a high number of AIDS patients and the condoms had been delivered to guest houses, hotels, restaurants and bars.
These were meant for free distribution to delegates who had come to attend the celebrations.
Vladimir Putin and Pussy Riot 21/2/2012 – The ‘Pussy Riot’ punk band was founded in Septeber-2011 and on 21/2/2012 they performed in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. By evening, they had turned it into a music video entitled "Punk Prayer - Mother of God, Chase Putin Away!"
The song was to protest against Vladimir Putin in the run-up to Russia's presidential elections.
Three members of ‘Pussy Riot’ all-female Russian band were sent to 6-months detention up to 12th January 2013 after they sang a protest song in Moscow's main Orthodox Church.
They have been charged with hooliganism and could get seven years in prison.
Prince Harry in Las Vegas 22/8/2012 - He is the 3rd in line to the British throne and was literally caught with his pants down while on holiday in Las Vegas.
It seems his photo went viral on the net – the photo showed him and a woman - he was wearing just a necklace and wristband.
The photo has been identified by the St James’ Palace as being that of Prince Harry and his Army bosses had called him over for ‘an interview without coffee’ – a euphemism for dressing down.
Kate Middleton topless photos 17/9/2012 – A magazine the ‘Closer’ had got hold of the topless photographs of Kate Middleton beside a swimming pool with Prince William – the photographs has been taken by a photographer using powerful lens.
The ‘Closer’, a French magazine and ‘Chi’, its Italian version are owned by Mondadori media which is a group of Silvio Berlusconi, the former Prime Minister of Italy.
There was much hue and cry and charges on invasion of privacy and, ultimately, the magazine was banned from displaying the photos.
But, Alfonso Signorini, the Editor of ‘Closer’ magazine wonders why Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, should be different from girls her age and sees nothing wrong in publishing these photos because Kate Middleton is a woman to today.
