Obama in tears after school massacre
We've seen this too many times. Our hearts are broken today. Those killed were gorgeous, young children who had their lives ahead of them, said President when he met the press Friday.
It was Friday morning that a man in his 20s walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. He walked into the classroom where his mother taught the youngest children, shot her and at least 18 students in the same room, according to The New York Times.
He also shot seven other adults before he took his own life.
The president struggled to say what he should say when he held a brief press conference Friday.
- Tonight I and Michelle squeezing our children a little tighter and tell them how much we love them. But there are families in Connecticut who can not, and we will be there for them.
Obama said he did not react as a President, but as a father when he hears that such attacks. He said that those killed were beautiful children between five and ten years who had life ahead of him.
- Birthdays, weddings, and they would even have children. Our hearts are broken for them, for their parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers, the president said, and wiped away a tear.
Obama also said the United States has experienced things like this many times.
Earlier today called the President to the Governor of Connecticut to offer condolences and express their sympathy.
Obama promised that the White House would give the state of Connecticut all the necessary support for this tragic attack.
