A man who is imprisoned has an obsession with
Dana Martin told investigators he convinced a man he met in prison and the man’s nephew to kill Bieber, including Bieber’s personal bodyguard and two others not linked to the pop star, according to an affidavit filed in Las Cruces.
The plotters wanted to cut off the balls of the two victims with hedge clippers before going to New York City to find Bieber, investigators said. However, the targets of the castration plot were not linked to Bieber, authorities say, and that the pop singer was not in immediate danger of falling victim to the plot.
Martin, a Vermont man who is imprisoned for two life sentences for the 2000 killing of a 15-year-old girl, said he was mad at Bieber because he didn't react to any of his letters. So this made Mr. Martin upset and thought that he was a nobody in prison and this perception led him to begin plotting the kidnap and murder of Victim 3, court docs said.
Victim 3 was identified in the documents as "J.B.," which New Mexico State Police spokesman Lt. Robert McDonald later confirmed was Justin Bieber.
Martin divulged to the investigators that Mark Staake and Tanner D. Ruane headed from New Mexico to the East Coast, setting up to be near a Bieber concert calendared in New York City after killing and castrating two others. Unluckily they missed a turn and crossed into Canada from Vermont. Arrested first on an outstanding warrant was Staake while Ruane was arrested later.
Martin told investigator that the pop star was the ultimate target, according to Court documents.
Tools and documents linked with the conspiracy while applying for a search warrant on Ruane’s vehicle were recovered by troopers, New York State Police said Thursday. Among the items found by troopers were a hand-written drawing of an illustration of Justin Bieber.
The Albuquerque man, Staake, 41, has been charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection to the plan. While Staake’s nephew, Ruane, is facing multiple charge related to the plot.
It was learned that an affidavit coming from Martin instructed the suspects to asphyxiate the two first intended targets with paisley neckties, similar to what he used in his 2000 murder case, Clinton Norris, of the New Mexico State Police investigations bureau in Las Cruces said. The documents do not give info on how they were to kill Bieber.
McDonald refused to say if any of the murder charges are connected to Bieber. He said that is part of the ongoing investigation.
Bieber's management said in a statement that they are taking every precaution to protect and insure the safety of Justin and his fans.
It was not known if the suspects had defense lawyers.
