Heating environment, melting of huge icebergs in Antarctica, increasing of sea level.
These and many others are evident causes of global warming. For how many years this topic has been in newspapers, magazines, movies, television and all sorts of media. People react on how terrifying the phenomenon is yet do nothing to remedy it.
Nowadays, in a tropical area like the Philippines being situated almost in the equator, one can't live without air conditioning machine installed in his household or maybe can live but uncomfortably. One can possibly have skin problems or worst, skin cancer if exposed to sun's direct heat for a period of time. One can even feel the heat penetrating his skin. He maybe becomes dark with just an hour exposure to sunlight unlike before that your body can still handle the heat even by 12 noon.
What causes global warming? Two reasons are: the sun's heat being trapped inside the earth's surface and excessive production of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) than Oxygen (O).
I always feel angry when I hear someone who complains a lot about the hot temperature yet disposes his juice-wrapper to an improper place. This tragedy could have not existed if we, humans are responsible to our environment. We abuse Mother Earth instead. Our bad doings are the reasons behind this and as long as we continue making these deeds, global warming will further worsen. We are like frogs drinking the water of the pond in which they live. Time will come that all of our resources will vanish and all what we can do is to wait for our deaths.
However, our government and some non-government organization (NGO's) implemented a number of programs to help solve the said problem. To name some, we have: (a) 3R- the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle program, (b) Simultaneous National Tree Planting, (c) Wastes Segregation, (d) Free Trainings and Seminars.
As ordinary citizens we should abide to all the laws protecting our environment, we should show support for community services, we should help promote programs and projects in our society because in the end, the benefits are ours.
We can do simple things like the following:
It is not yet too late for a change. We still can do a big difference than neglecting this forever and wait until the world ends. The change starts from each one of us. Help yourself be able to appreciate the gifts that God has given to you. Let yourself save these gifts not just for yourself but for your family and to the next generation in the near future.
