A gambling casino in downtown Chicago (either land-based or in Lake Michigan) is thisclose to becoming reality. Such an establishment will likely put all other Midwestern casinos...
Wow, I once lived in downtown Chicago (Goldcoast and River North), and I can't imagine a casino in downtown. I like the line about Chicago being "the place you go when you don't want to be found . . . "
I've lived and worked in Chicago (mainly downtown) for 40 years. I've also lived and worked in 7 other states and overseas (Ghana). Yet...I always end up back here. Must be something in the water.
Chicago should get in while the getting is good. Soon there will be casinos throughout the country and people looking to cash in on a little fun and the prospect of a profit can stay in their respective regions or state and gamble.
To propose that a Chicago casino would shut other casinos down and eclipse Atlantic City, or give Las Vegas a run for the money, is a wild dream. There are casinos all over the country and nothing new inside ANOTHER casino. If a tourist comes to Chicago for the atmosphere, that doesn't include the inside of a casino. They can see that closer to home. Why would a non-Chicagoan who wishes to gamble brave driving to, and parking in, Chicago, when they can go elsewhere, even a local bar, to gamble? A Chicago casino would fleece locals only.
