Hammad Munshi was just 15 when he was recruited by a terror cell believed to have been plotting an assassination attempt on the Royal Family.
He was found to have downloaded information relevant to bomb-making and to keep texts on martyrdom under his bed. This led the judge at Old Bailey to declare that his mind had been corrupted by "pernicious thoughts".
The boy was arrested back in 2006 while returning from a Chemistry exam. He was apparently found with two bags of ball bearings on him - critical components in putting together a suicide vest.
He was sentenced last month. Judges accepted he was unfortunate for his naive mind to have been swayed by the evil of others. Family members, including his grandfather who heads the Islamic Research Institute of Britain expressed dismay at the discovery of Hammad's activities.
MP Shahid Malik has called out to Muslim parents to be more vigilant with regards to the activities of their children to ensure they are not misled in this manner.
