Links Between Palestinian Statehood and Arafat Exhumation

The conspiracy claiming Yasser Arafat was poisoned by Israel is being dredged up once again, this time literally. The entire intent planned around the Arafat was poisoned by Israel plot has been in the works for quite a while but depended upon one crucial point, the ability of the Palestinian Authority to petition the ICC (International Criminal Court) which requires that the Palestinian Authority or the Palestinian Liberation Organization be recognized as being a State so that they would be enabled to petition the ICC without the need for assistance by any recognized State. Despite the fact that France and numerous other States had given their word that should sufficient evidence be presented, they would sue in the ICC on the Palestinian Authority’s behalf, this was not sufficient of a guarantee and set the bar higher than they would be able to meet, thus they had to be able to sue on their own. This has been the driving but unmentioned reason behind the near maniacal pursuit for recognition by the Palestinian Authority. They see their receiving the honors of being a recognized State plus taking Israel before the ICC for their presumed poisoning of Yasser Arafat would go a long way to restoring their reputation and standing with the Muslim World and especially the Palestinians themselves. This is the last resort of the Palestinian Authority for recovering from their slow slipping into oblivion as they continue to lose credibility to Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the other Islamist terror organizations who are viewed as being more active in fighting to destroy Israel.

There will be those who will point out that the Palestinian Authority failed last year to gain recognition through the United Nations when the Security Council voted down their petition thus preventing it from reaching the floor of the General Assembly. Since then the Palestinian Authority was thrown a life preserver when they were accepted and admitted as a member State in UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) despite the entire process violated the UNESCO Charter rules for admitting a new member State. With this recognition under their belt, the Palestinian Authority will now seek an adjustment to their standing from an observer entity to an observer State. Where this might appear to be a distinction without a difference it actually makes all the difference in the world. By upgrading from entity to State, though it does not grant membership or much else within the United Nations, it does allow the Palestinian Authority to petition any United Nations entity, organization or court including the ICC. Since only a majority vote of the General Assembly is necessary to attain the new standing as a recognized State, the Palestinian Authority knows that their approval is pretty much guaranteed and therefore has begun the mechanisms facilitating suing Israel for the assassination of Yasser Arafat by polonium poisoning in the ICC.

This leads to the story behind the exhumation of Yasser Arafat’s body and what was used as the reason to reopen the investigation into the manner of his death. There have been the claims since when Yasser Arafat first turned ill that the Israelis, who had him in a siege situation in his offices, the Muqataa, in Ramallah had poisoned him by injecting some poison into his food with radioactive poisoning with polonium 210 being the latest theory. It was reported that surprising levels of polonium 210 were found by the Institut de Radiophysique in Lausanne, Switzerland to be in purported belongings of Yasser Arafat provided to the institute by Suha Arafat, Yasser’s widow, in tests reported on November 27, 2012. There are some who have questioned how such levels of polonium 210 could have been present in Arafat’s belongings after so much time has passed.

There is a fair amount of evidence to question the high levels of polonium 210 as it has a half-life of 138 days and Yasser Arafat died in November 2004. This means that over two-thousand-nine-hundred days have passed since Arafat’s death and thus since the polonium 210 could have been introduced into his body. This works out to over twenty-one cycles of half-life of the polonium 210 which requires a minute amount in order to poison someone. Each half-life reduces the quantity of the radioactive substance by one-half. Having twenty-one cycles of half-life gone by means that the remaining amount of polonium 210 would be less than 0.00005% of the original amount of the poison in Yasser Arafat’s entire body. Anything found in his clothing would presumably be a trace element compared to the amount in his body. Since only a few micrograms is a large and lethal dose of polonium 210, even if Yasser Arafat had ingested 100 µg of polonium 210, there would be less than 0.005 µg left. Finding any polonium 210 in his clothing after so much time, let alone significant amounts as was reported, is an impossibility unless the polonium had been seeded into the sample.

This is not a valid search for the truth but is simply a charade being played out in order to drag Israel before the world one more time using Arafat’s death. The reason for this should be obvious as first, there need not even be an ulterior motive needed to drag Israel or Jews through the dirt publically, and the more publically and louder the headlines the better, but with the Palestinian Authority floundering and losing their hold on their rule in the West Bank, expect Abbas and the rest of the leadership of the Palestinian Authority to ride this hoping to regain some of the ground they have lost to Hamas and other terror groups who have been perceived as more effectively against Israel. And to think that the death of the Palestinian Authority was initiated by the open elections where the United States under President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice insisting against the warnings from both Israel and the Palestinian Authority, demanded that Hamas be allowed to run in the elections which led to the Hamas winning a majority of seats in the Palestinian Parliament. The rest is history.
