Season 15 has come to the final episode on “Dancing with the Stars” and after a night of dance performances from the season’s dancers, a winner would be crowned. While the finalists still had one more dance to perform for the judge’s scores, it was sure the winner would be a female celebrity with only Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft, and Shawn Johnson remaining.

The show opens with a performance from all of the season’s couples in a dance choreographed by “So You Think You Can Dance” alum and “Dancing with the Stars” professional Lacey Schwimmer.

This week’s encore dance was a dance that scored a perfect 30 on performance night – the freestyle by Shawn and Derek.

The three finalists have one more dance to perform but have yet to learn what it would be or what song they would be dancing to other than it would be a Latin dance…until now. Pulling a mini mirrorball out of the bowl…
Kelly and Valentin chose the Jive to “Cat and Mouse”
Melissa and Tony chose a Samba to “Life is a Highway”
Shawn and Derek got the Cha Cha to “Respect”

Each of the couples returned to the dance floor for a performance. First up was Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas. Next Pamela Anderson and Tristan MacManus danced. Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower performed. Drew Lachey and partner Anna Trebunskaya were joined on the dance floor by Drew’s daugher Isabella for a Cha Cha.

Replacing the finalists who were practicing their instant dances, team “Gangnam Style” reprised their team dance. Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson went “Back to the Future” for their dance, complete with a De Lorian. Next Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel performed. They were followed by team “Call Me Maybe” with Joey and Anna filling in for the missing finalists.

The last of the returning couples performed on the dance floor – Kirstie and Maks, Giles and Peta went Bollywood, Apolo and Karina, and Emmitt and Cheryl.

First up with their instant dance was Kelly and Valentin with their instant Jive that Len said was crisp and clean; adding that Kelly went for it and nailed it. Bruno called the performance magnificent and Carrie Ann was impressed; saying they were in sync and Kelly won her heart. Kelly and Valentin scored 28.5 points for their Jive. Adding that to their total of 59 points from Monday night, the couple had a total of 87.5 points.

Melissa and Tony performed a Samba that had Bruno calling Melissa a South American siren. Noting that the music was not quite Brazilian enough, Bruno thought the couple did a great job. Carrie Ann said that while Melissa has demonstrated artistry and grace all season long, she thought they rushed the dance just a bit. Len noted that the interpretation of the dance was not quite as good as their Samba on Monday night, he said that the dance was still a great pleasure to watch. Melissa and Tony scored 28.5 points for a grand total of 88.5 points.

Shawn and Derek performed an instant Cha Cha that Carrie Ann called a star studded performance. Len called Shawn the no stress express; adding the dance was fantastic and Bruno said that it was a great way to end the night; calling the dance perfection. Shawn and Derek earned a perfect score for their Cha Cha and had a total of 87 points for both nights.

Total scores…

Shawn and Derek – 87
Kelly and Valentin – 87.5
Melissa and Tony – 88.5

After all of the scores and fan votes were totaled the couple who came in third place was…

…Kelly and Valentin.

The winner of the All Star season of “Dancing with the Stars” is…

….

…with host Tom Bergeron saying, “now they have won too,” he announced Melissa and Tony as the winners! A shocked Melissa and Tony were mobbed by their fellow dancers and hoisted on shoulders before Tom could properly present the glammed out Mirrorball Trophy.

“Dancing with the Stars” promises to return in the spring.
