Sacramento California. California Highway Patrol spokesman John Frizzell said four persons were killed and five were injured in a car accident near Placerville on highway 50 on Saturday evening.
The accident happened when a Toyota Prius crossed the center line and collided with a Toyota Sienna minivan that was struck broadside.
Frizzell said the driver of the Prius a 39 year old man, a woman and one child died at the scene of the accident. One child that was in the Prius is being treated for moderate injuries. The persons who died in the Prius were from the San Francisco area.
The four persons that were in the minivan were the driver a 35 year old female, a 51 year old man and two one year old children who are being treated for minor to moderate injuries. One four year old girl died when she was being taken to the hospital.
By late Sunday afternoon the names of the deceased were not released. Weather conditions at the scene of the accident were clear.
Frizzell said investigators have taken computers out of both vehicle to determine how fast they were driving at the time of the accident. The conclusion of that information will take days to determine if the cars were speeding or not.
Frizzell said the area of the accident was just outside the city of Placerville which is 45 miles east of Sacramento.
