The rebooted version of “Dallas,” which is currently in the middle of its season two production, will continue without. The legendary actor, who plays cunning villain JR Ewing on the show, passed away Friday at the age of 81 after losing his battle with throat cancer.
According to reporters, producers of the hit TV drama, which is shown on Channel 5 in the UK, will fit the death of JR Ewing into the script. A statement from Warner Bros. said: “Dallas is midway in production on Season 2 and this sad news will be incorporated into the storyline.”
It is said that all of the cast and crew of the show were extremely saddened at the sudden death of Larry Hagman. Executive producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael M. Robin said in a joint statement: “Larry Hagman was a giant, a larger-than-life personality whose iconic performance as J.R. Ewing will endure as one of the most indelible in entertainment history.”
The statement continued: “He truly loved portraying this globally recognized character, and he leaves a legacy of entertainment, generosity and grace. Everyone at Warner Bros. and in the Dallas family is deeply saddened by Larry's passing, and our thoughts are with his family and dear friends during this difficult time.”
Richard Desmond, owner of Channel 5, said in a statement that he was “very sad to hear the news” of Larry Hagman’s death. He continued: “He was the ultimate professional and a very good guy who I had the privilege of meeting a number of times, most recently when he, Linda and Patrick came to London to help launch Dallas on Channel 5.”
He added: “He was very funny and made us all laugh. This is a very sad day for his family, friends and fans.”
Larry Hagman reprised his role as JR Ewing in the rebooted version of “Dallas” which started airing in June of this year.
A statement released by the actor’s family read: “Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most. Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones.”
“It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time,” the statement concluded.
According to reports, Channel 5 will broadcast an exclusive 30-minute show titled: “A Tribute to Larry Hagman: At home with JR” Sunday night at 9 p.m. to honor the star’s life and work.
