In one of the most grueling fights of the year, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO) defeated Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO) by unanimous decision in order to retain his WBC Interim Welterweight Belt.
The action started off quickly in this bout as Guerrero was able to score a flash knockdown on Berto in the first round with a left cross. However, Guerrero was able to back that knockdown up with another one in the second round with a solid body shot.
During the second round, it appeared that Berto was thumbed in his right eye as well. Berto's eye began to swell shut quickly.
The entire fight was fought in a phone booth as Guerrero chose to fight inside in order to nullify Berto's speed. By the end of this bout, both of Berto's eyes were swollen, while Guerrero's right eye was swollen shut as well. Guerrero was able to hold on on all three scorecards with a 116-110 victory.
