It was a 3-hour torture for a woman visitor to the Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt when her scheduled 2-hour visit ended but no prison staff turned up to escort her out of the premises and she remained trapped in the prison.
This has been reported in rotoruadailyost.co.nz of 24th of November 2012.
Lorraine Haare had driven from Opotiki to the Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt where her partner is serving a three-year sentence for a drug conviction – he had been in prison for the last 9 months.
The prison guards took her to the visiting room and, when no one came to let her out, she panicked and both she and her partner began to scream and finally, in desperation, she threw the chair at the window to attract the attention.
At last, she climbed through the tiny window and into an adjacent office but there was no phone in the office and she was totally cutoff from the world.
Anyway – after 3-hours, the prison officials came for her and apologized for the ordeal that she had to go through.
