The quarterfinals of the EA Sports Maui Invitational started off with a bang today with Butler's 72-71 defeat of Marquette.
Both teams played with so much determination and grit for the entire forty minutes. With that in mind, it was destined for this game to be decided in the final seconds.
With eight seconds left on the clock, Marquette was ahead 71-69 when the Golden Eagles missed a free throw. Butler grabbed the rebound and gave the ball to Rotnei Clarke. Clarke went down the court, dribbled around, and was able to put up a one-handed off-balance heave from about 30 feet. The shot hit nothing but net as the Bulldogs have seemed to recapture their magic from two seasons ago.
If the free throw was made, then the game would have went into overtime. If you are an aspiring basketball player, then practice your free throws along with your three-point shots.
