Hamas downed an Israeli drone as Israeli air strikes continues

Hamas' Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades said it downed an Israeli reconnaissance plane over the eastern Gaza Strip on Thursday.

The brigades fired a surface-to-air missile at the aircraft during a raid on Gaza and claimed a direct hit.

Hamas published a video of the drone, showing that it dropped. However, the authenticity of the footage was not confirmed by an independent source. Some witnesses confirmed the news, claiming they have seen the plane.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not immediately respond to request to comment.

Hours earlier, the Islamic Jihad’s military branch, al-Quds brigades, said it fired a Fajr rocket at Tel Aviv on Thursday, as warning sirens sounded in Israel's main city.

"We have widened the range of the battle to reach Tel Aviv and what is coming will be greater and worse," the al-Quds brigades said in a statement.

Minutes earlier, sirens sounded in Tel Aviv, and Israel's Army Radio reported a missile strike.

Air raid sirens sounded in Israel's commercial center during the evening rush hour, sending commuters scurrying from buses to seek shelter, and an explosion was heard.

Israeli news networks said it was the first time rockets had been fired at the city since the 1991 Gulf War, when it was hit by Iraqi Scud missiles.

In return, Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak said Gaza would be made to pay a price for firing rockets towards Tel Aviv.

"This escalation will exact a price that, the other side will have to pay," Barak said in broadcast remarks, after the rockets were fired.

He also announced he had ordered the military to enlist more reservists, so that they can prepare for any development. The Israeli armed forces chief spokesman said the military had the green light to call in up to 30,000 reserve troops.

Early on Friday morning, Israeli air force attacked more than 120 targets in different parts of the Gaza Strip in less than 30 minutes, using F-16 war planes.

The Israeli army said in a statement that, among the targets were underground medium-range rocket launching pads and several Palestinian security centers, adding that Friday's wave of air strikes brought the total number to 320, since the start of operation "Pillar of Defense" on Wednesday evening.

Security and media sources in Gaza, reported Israeli occupation F16 warplanes bombed civilian areas, resistance centers and buildings that belong to the ministry of interior leading to excessive damage; several injuries were reported. One of the bombarded buildings is a school run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza.

In Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli F-16 bombarded another UNRWA school, also leading to excessive damage.

Responding to the Israeli escalation, Palestinian armed groups in Gaza fired dozens Grad Fajer 5 rockets from the Gaza Strip landed in Shaar Hanegev area, Ashdod, Tel Aviv, Bat Yam and Rishon Lezion.

Yediot Ahranot (Ynet), an Israeli newspaper, published on its website that two rockets exploded in Ashdod Friday, with one hitting a house's yard. Several people suffered panic attacks, and great damage was caused on the scene. Another rocket hit a house in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, causing considerable damage and igniting a fire. No injuries were immediately reported.

Opinion:

I think that Israel was very surprised of the Palestinian resistance, which stunned the Palestinian people as well. Certainly Israel will think several times, after what is happening nowadays, before taking any foolish action against the Palestinian people.

Despite the fact that Israel killed 1,400 Palestinians in the last war on Gaza, mostly women and children, the Palestinians proved to Israel that they know how to respond with the most violent responses and hurt Israel as it hurts them.

Its worth mentioning that most Israeli bombings are on empty lands, to the extent that several areas were bombed five times, the reason being that it is obvious that Israel does not have any identified targets as it claimed. But it just bombs to scare the people of Gaza, who have been used to the sound of explosions for many years. At the same time, the bombs are dropped to convince the Israeli people that it is taking revenge on the resistance and killing them. In fact, they were able to kill civilians only and destroy their homes.

Israel is threatening to enter Gaza's land. Do you think that Israel can go with its tanks even 50 meters inside Gaza? I think that Gaza will be the cemetery for the Israeli army, if they think to enter it. Gaza will also be the cause of Netanyahu's fall in the next elections. For this, the international community and in particular America, should move in a neutral and loyal way so as to solve the Palestinian issue, which the magical solution to its crisis is the establishment of a Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 war, with Jerusalem as its capital. Israel should understand that the force does not work with the Palestinian people, who will fight until they reach their goal, no matter what it costs them.
