Punditty Project announces countdown of TV greats

As far as Punditty is concerned, network television as a whole pretty much jumped the shark when CBS canceled “The White Shadow” in the spring of 1981. Since then, he’s only deliberately set aside TV time for the first season of “Seinfeld," a couple seasons of “Northern Exposure” and all six weeks of “Black. White.,” the Ice CubeIce Cube-produced mini-series/reality show that aired on FX in early 2006.

There’s also the “The Simpsons” now and then, of course, along with women’s beach volleyball when you can get it --which isn’t nearly often enough for most patriotic Americans. (A special Punditty Shout-Out to Kerri & Misty – you’re the best & you’ve got the Gold to prove it!)

For the most part, though, Punditty doesn’t bother with TV much at all anymore unless there’s a good rerun on TV Land. Sure, he'll watch a DVD if someone drops by with the latest documentary on the metaphysical ramifications of applied quantum mechanics as they relate to the multiplicity of time-space dimensions predicted by String Theory, but who wouldn't? And yes, he has been known to make time to watch a baseball game here and there. But for the most part, TV of the early 21st-century variety holds no appeal.

So, if you’re thinking Punditty’s list of characters seems a little dated, you’re right. No matter. The list spans at least 15 years of TV history and honors the achievements of those who entertained America and the world in a bygone era. Inclusion in the Punditty Pantheon is not something to be taken lightly.

Beginning Sept. 18, and concluding at some point before Oct. 1, readers can follow the countdown in the Punditty Pantheon of TV Greats in Secondary or Lesser Roles. Whenever possible, the countdown release will include an embedded You Tube video of the actor or actress in question. The reports on all 10 honorees, along with this report, will have links to all other reports. They are found under "Submitted News" below.
