Arrest of Anand Krishna Can Trigger Social Uprising
DENPASAR – the forced arrest of Anand Krishna by the Supreme Court can trigger a social uprising and pose a threat to unity, diversity and national and communal lives.
The rejection to the arrest warrant of Anand continuously flows from many people such as from Indra Udayana, a young Hindu intellectual.
“We reject this Supreme Court’s decision because it’s very much against the principle of justice and it also violates human rights,” said Gus Indra – the nickname of BR Indra Udayana this week end.
It’s not only that, Gus Indra warns that if the arrest is really carried out, other Balinese prominent figure and himself, will continue the fight through, press conferences, rallies, prayers and examinations, as already said in the press.
“We know and we are aware of what we are doing. If Anand Krishna is imprisoned by force, it can cause a social upraising and it can pose a threat to unity, diversity, and our national life,” said the son of the late Mrs. Gedong.
Gus Indra continues, recently Bali hosted an international meeting the fifth Bali Democracy Forum (BDF), which should emphasize more on the principles, values, and correct democratic practices.
He questions whether all the nations in the world also join to solve the conflicts which threaten humanity from the perspective of democracy. The case affecting this multicultural figure Anand Krishna is today an irony as he is denied justice from the authority.
Supposedly, from the magnificence and splendor of the BDF which recently took place and was led by President SBY, the Supreme Court can reflect on that so that this legal institution can discipline its corrupt elements who have abused the laws with the unjust verdict against Anand.
Earlier, in a press conference a while ago some Balinese figures expressed their support to Anand and his struggle in fighting against the Supreme Court’s decision.
It has been known, the Chairman of Anand Ashram Sympathizers’ Community (KPAA), Wayan Sayoga, asserted, Anand will fight against the arrest due to the overturn of his acquittal by the Supreme Court as this decision is an offence to justice and deprives him of his rights.
The Supreme Court sentenced Anand Krishna to 2.5 years imprisonment. The Supreme Court’s decision contradicts Judge Albertina Ho’s acquittal of Anand Krishna on November 22nd, 2011 at South Jakarta District Court. (RA)
