Remember that famous line, ‘dogs go wacko for Smackos’; there is also the line ‘people go loco for Lotto’. Actually I made it up, better hopefully the crowd out there thinks it sounds alright, like winning lotto. There’s lots of money on offer in Lotto, which would feel good if you actually won. This includes lots of Lotto attempts and hopes that this will be the winning ticket. Oh lots of Lotto joy; it’ll happen one day, it has to.
Lotto is a bit of a teaser. You’ll be down on your luck, winless after how long now. Then Lotto decides to give you a bit of a reward, an incentive, to keep going, keep believing, that one day(s) you’ll..... You might get a $10, then a $20 and then $40, and how does it feel? You feel like you actually won Lotto –
‘Hun, we won’.
‘How much? How much?’
Don’t tell them the price son because, well, it’s enough to buy tonight’s dinner. Hey, it’s something. Those small lottery wins feel great don’t they; it replaces actually winning the lottery. Then, then, when, and if, you do win Lotto in some big way, it doesn’t feel the same. All those smaller wins have taken the joy out of the big win –
‘Hun, um, we got the winning ticket...hargh (he starts crying).’
‘C’mon babe, isn’t it supposed to be a happy occasion?’
‘I don’t know, I’ve lost that Lotto feeling.’ (lost that loving feeling – Righteous Brothers).
I’ll tell you something. I used to be the happiest guy in town when I’d have a rare go on the Poker machines. Others would put in $20 and $50 notes, but didn’t seem happy about it. I’d put in $1 and I was on top of the world. They’d all look at me as if something was wrong with me, but in fact, what was wrong with them. They were betting $50 and surely could win a lot of moolah with that compared to the golden $1 coin. Actually a golden $1 coin makes you feel as if you really do have gold in your hands. As the saying goes, big things come in small packages; thanks $1 coin.
Oh, and then there’s Keno, which sounds like Lotto, with the Oooooo at the end. And what do Keno, Lotto and Poker machines have in common – an enjoyable $1 bet, with the famous gold $1 coin. You just got to go...Lotto.
