The worlds' mightiest military once led by now out-going CIA Director David Petraeus was in shock after the General admitted to an extramarital affair, as reported by Fox News. Further research course of an FBI investigation revealed David Patraeus mistress name as Paula Broadwell, his biographer that wrote the book All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.

Aside from the US military high ranks, Petraeus mistress scandal has struck his marriage with wife Holly Knowlton. "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours," the retired four-star general Patraeus said. "This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation." Petraeus met with President Obama on Thursday before submitting his letter of resignation.

David Petraeus went to West Point. After he graduated, he married Holly Knowlton, the daughter of Army General William A. Knowlton who at the time was superintendent of West Point. Holly also works in the Obama administration, for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau according to the report.

Petraeus was promoted to lieutenant general in 2004 under President George W. Bush and became the first commander of the Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq.

President Barack Obama promoted Petraeus as Commander of United States Central Command, which oversees the military efforts in Afghanistan, and the rest on Middle East conflict. On June 2011, Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the next Director of the CIA after relinquishing command of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan on July 18, 2011 and retired from the U.S. Army on August 31, 2011.

Although Patraeus cited his resignation as strictly "personal reasons" surrounding the affair, the move comes amid the unfolding scrutiny surrounding the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya including the CIA, in which as a director he's been set to testify at hearings next week.

All In: The Education of General David Petraeus is the first book by Ms. Paula Broadwell, a West Point graduate (1995) with advanced degrees in public policy, international security, and war studies. "All In..." grew out of her dissertation on transformational leadership and organizational innovation, using Gen Petraeus as a case study, wrote one reviews of the book. Paula Broadwell photos was part of the case study with then the General which bring her to fields of Afghanistan and Iraq.

When someone imagine the number of large scale battles that General David Petraeus has led, it’s funny to see that he fell by a weapon no one is immune from, the Cupid’s Arrow. Afterall even the mighty Napoleon who changed the map of Europe by commanding 45,000 troops and 200 cannon fell in love to Polish Countess Walewska, which is the famous Napoleon's Mistress.

Petraeus was an absolute failure ... ethnic cleansing in Iraq ... cover-ups in Afghanistan and as CIA Director failures in Yemen, Libya, Syria and undoubtedly some we don't know about.

Exactly, I think you've correctly assessed his recent 'accomplishments' if you can even call his failures that!

No West Pointer is immune to human urges. The question is this happened a while ago, maybe 3-2 years ago, why the FBI pursued him just now?

Petraeus has been grossly overrated. to even put him in the context of Napoleon is ludicrous, all Petraeus ever did was mismanage a couple of wars against minor powers... and do it poorly at that.

Seeya Gen. Betrayus, I hope your poor wife kicks you to the curb as well.

I really think it is sad that Holly Petraeus, stood behind her husband, while she was alone alot of her life. Where she probably raised her kids, mostly by herself. He gets all the glory about how great he is, while his wife was the back bone of his family. Then he treats her with such disrepect by having an affair and then having it become public like it has. When are these men going to start making really hard choices like being faithful and being the type a man that we can be proud of?

I agree with you comments regarding Holly, it is truly she who has paid the greatest price of all.

You ask "When are these men going to start making really hard choices like being faithful and being the type a man that we can be proud of?" and I am afraid you will not care for my answer. Men like Petraeus will change when women STOP choosing men like Petraeus. When gentleness, kindness becomes more appealing to women that brashness and aggression, then you will see a shift in human behavior

No, I totally agree with what you are saying. The right choices go both ways, for men and women. As Americans to remain a great country, we need to start making choices to do what is right, not what feels good.

Agreed. The problem is as I see it that doing the right thing usually comes with a price, and personal sacrifice is largely gone from our society. Thanks for your feedback Roserunner.

Technically, Petraeus never led the U.S. military. He did have four star commands but was never chief of staff of the joint chiefs.
