Thousands of people across the world have signed a petition on the internet calling for Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girls gunned down by the Taliban for raising her voice in support of girls education, to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Reports also suggest that women rights activists are urging the UK government to support the campaign. Advocates supporting Yousafzai’s cause have said that the 14-year-old girl represents all those denied education.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ms. Yousafzai was flow to the UK for treatment after she was shot by the Taliban in Pakistan’s Swat valley. According to her doctors in the UK, the teenage girl is making good recovery.

Meanwhile, Yousafzai’s father has said that his daughter is grateful to everyone from across the world who prayed for her and all her well-wishers.

"She wants me to tell everyone how grateful she is and is amazed that men, women and children from across the world are interested in her well-being,” she said, according to BBC.

Ms. Yousafzai came to the limelight when she wrote a diary in 2009 about life under the Taliban, who were slaughtering people and destroying schools in Pakistan’s Swat valley.

Nov. 10 has also been declared as “Malala Day,” in a bid to symbolize the right of access to education for the 32 million girls across the world who continue remaining out of school.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually to someone judged to have made greater sacrifices for peace. Ms. Yousafzai’s father has also said that his daughter is a worthy candidate to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Award.

"Malala stands for the human dignity, tolerance and pluralism. She has drawn with her sacred blood a clear line between barbarity and human civilisation. Her voice is the voice of the people of Pakistan and all downtrodden and deprived children of the world,” Yousafzai’s father said.

A Nobel Peace Prize nomination can be filed by a person who satisfies the requirements and criteria set for it. The deadline for nomination is usually February. The online petition calling for Yousafzai to be nomited for the nobel peace prize was started in Canada by Tarek Fatah on Fath is a broadcaster and writer by profession.
