It’s been estimated that 90 percent of new businesses fail within their first year. This is why it’s crucial for startup entrepreneurs to do everything in their power to make sure their fetal company gets its footing. Social marketing can greatly impact the success or failure of a business. Here are a few social marketing tips that will help startup companies reach their full potential.

Use Facebook

With over 300 million users worldwide, Facebook allows your company’s products and services to be seen by numerous potential consumers. This social media site offers a power platform on which you can build a solid web presence for your company. Make a Fan Page for your business and make sure to interact with fans every day through engaging wall posts, special discount coupon offers and polls.

Twitter

From sending out mass newsletters to recruiting high level future employees, there are a number of different ways startups can use Twitter to their advantage.

Sign up for Twitter and create a basic profile page for your business. Attract users by following them or offering exclusive promotions on your Twitter feed. You can also use desktop and mobile Twitter clients such as Seesmic, Tweetie and TweetDesk to allow you to have more flexibility and power over your broadcast.

Company Blog

A blog is a great way to effectively and affordably promote your business. If you offer high quality content every day or a couple times a day, you can draw visitors and gain more web traffic to your website.

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a very effective way to increase your Google rankings. To gain more traffic, you can also network with other blogs in your industry and post guest blog posts on their sites, linking back to your own webpage. You can also interact with your audience by posting pictures, videos and encouraging chatter in your blog’s comment section.

YouTube, Flickr and Multimedia

YouTube is television for the common man. You can create how-to videos, staff introductions, or even videos that feature your products or services to offer a wide range of multimedia options to your clients.

One of the big names in personal photo pages, Getty Images, will be attending ad:tech in New York. They allow users to create personal photo albums in order to share their pictures with the world. You can use Getty Images to your advantage and post pictures of your customers and products.
