Syria rebels kill 28 government soldiers in attack checkpoints

Syrian rebels killed 28 unarmed government soldiers on Thursday, about half of them in attacks on military checkpoints near the town of Saraqeb in northwest Syria just hours after a wave of bombings hit the Damascus area, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

This massacre came after days of intense air bombardment of rebel positions around the country that killed hundreds more, a video of Thursday's attack posted on YouTub showe Syrian rebels beating and kicking government soldiers and some of the dead were shot after they had surrendered, There was no comment from the Syrian government. U.N. representatives and human rights organizations have accused rebel fighters of committing war crimes

One of the captured men says: "I swear I didn't shoot anyone" to which a rebel responds: "Shut up you animal ... Gather them for me." Then the men are shot dead. according to Reuters

The Syrian conflict is entering its 20th month and more than 32,000 people have been killed since protests against Assad The revolt has since degenerated into full-scale civil war,hundreds of people were killed in the past week as the government has stepped up airstrikes and artillery against rebel-controlled areas. An estimated 100,000 refugees mostly women and children, have sought refuge in Turkey since the start of the conflic in Syria are now housed in Turkish camps

Brahimi calls for a truce over the Muslim holiday of Eid visited Beijing on Wednesday, where Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi had made proposed a cease-fire and negotiations on a gradual political transition to end the bloodshed. China is a close ally of the Syrian government, as are Russia one of the biggest allies of President Bashar al-Assad ,Russia used the right of veto against three previous resolutions which condemning the government of President Bashar al-Assad, while selling his armed forces nearly $1 billion in arms last year both of them have steadfastly blocked any outside intervention that could force Assad from power.

Syrian capital Damascus and Aleppo have witnessed other blasts this month have targeted military and security buildings during the war against al-Assad's security forces . Islamist groups and opposition rebels have claimed responsibility for prior attacks

After regional tour to international peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi failed it's diplomatic efforts to temporary truce, hoping to stem the killings during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha had been a long shot from the start . Fighting dropped off in the first hours of the cease-fire , the U.S. is making a push to unite the opposition, which is dominated by exiles widely seen as ineffective and out of touch with rebel fighters on the ground.
