On Sunday The San Francisco Giants won the World Series by beating the Detorit Tigers in four games. The Giants Second World Series in three years. Before The Giants played in San Francisco they played in New York and were known as the New York Giants. Long Before players like Tim Licencum,Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey The New York Giants had players like Bobby Thomson,Monte Irvin and Willie Mays. On October 3rd 1951 those New York Giants were a part of Baseball History against there cross town rivals the Brooklyn Dodgers.On October 3rd 1951 the Brooklyn Dodgers & The New York Giants played In game three of the National League Pennant at the Polo Grounds home of the Giants. The Series was tied 1-1 With both teams winning a game at home. The Winner of game three would advance to the World Series. The Dodgers were winning 4-2 in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Giants were at bat they had two out and two man on base when Bobby Thomson came to bat and hit A 3 run home run off of Ralph Branca to win the game and the series. The play is one of the most famous plays in baseball history and was named "The Shot Heard Round The World". In 2009 I sent Mr.Thomson a letter asking for his autograph as well as A questionnaire in less then two weeks he signed the pictures I sent him and filled out the questionnaire. one of the questions I asked him was"what was going through your mind before you hit that famous home run" and he wrote" I Was Concentrated on Hitting the ball". Mr.Thomson Passed away a year later on August 16th 2010 he was 86 years old.
