Skooter reporting 10/30/12
A 19-year-old Belle Chasse man has been arrested by Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies for supposedly feeding his 2-month-old son enough alcohol to register a .289 percent blood alcohol content.
Booked Sunday for attempted first degree murder was Cesar Ruiz. Drivers with blood alcohol level of .08 percent or more, they are considered legally drunk in Louisiana.
At Ochsner Hospital, the infant, Lucas Ruiz, was initially admitted to the pediatric unit on Oct. 16 due to breathing difficulties.
At the time the child was undergoing treatment, he started having seizures and was moved to the pediatric intensive care unit, where his elevated blood alcohol level was discovered.
Cesar Ruiz admitted to authorities he acted to relieve his son’s suffering and had no intention to kill the infant, Col. John Fortunato said.
The infant's condition is unknown.
