Will it be Gary Johnson or Ron Paul for Americans who are not willing to vote for the lesser of two evils?
That is the question after the recent Third Party debate brought out a passionate Libertarian who did a bit more than just turn a few heads; he may have changed a multitude of minds after he mentioned Ron Paul as his hero, among other things. You know, like bringing the troops home and legalizing marijuana, just to name a couple.
Today, Free and Equal announced Libertarian candidate Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are the winners over Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode and Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson from the Oct. 23 bout and subsequent polling that allowed "We the People" to choose the winners. This brings the Libertarian and the Green candidates to their final destination on Nov. 5 in Washington for a late-in-the-game publicized opportunity to sway voters their way -- and you can bet Ron Paul's movement will be there in full force.
Although Johnson is certainly no Ron Paul, he may have become the next best thing in the hearts of grassroots campaigners who filled stadiums around the country each time the Texas representative made an appearance this past year as he campaigned for constitutional government, honest money and personal liberty.
Many in the revolution who chanted "President Paul" and vowed to write in the good doctor are changing their minds and aren't shy about announcing it publicly. Needless to say, some will be marking their ballots for Johnson wearing their Ron Paul T-shirt, for symbolic purposes, of course.
A Washington state resident going by "Pawnstorm" caused a category three indeed on the Daily Paul website when he announced his decision to vote for Johnson. Some solid Ron Paul supporters weren't too excited about the idea, while others embraced it after reading his persuasive piece and argument with himself that brought him to his final decision, which included the fact that his write-in Ron Paul vote may not even be counted in the only state named after a president.
The excitement around the Internet grows as social networking informs Americans that there are other choices besides the continued attempts at a two-party gridlock with Republican candidate Mitt Romney and our current president, the Democrat, Barack Obama. Their similarities are many, as they admitted in their final debate.
Even MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell put out an interesting Last Word the night after the first Third Party debate: "That right there was a presidential debate last night that was not covered by the major networks because it did not include any candidates who are running above 15 percent in the polls, but it did include candidates who dared to talk about important issues that never came up in the presidential debates watched by 60 million people."
O'Donnell used his show to educate on voting in a democracy, telling viewers to not listen to those who mislead you by telling you voting for a Third Party candidate is a wasted vote. He persuasively points out that if you vote for a Democrat who loses you are not told you wasted your vote, so why would you be wasting your vote if you voted for a Third Party candidate who loses? You would instead be sending a message.
Proving Americans are looking for another option to choose for their commander-in-chief, Tim Sarver commented beneath a Third Party video and gained 37 thumbs up for saying: "All of these guys, even Virgil, seem like better candidates for president than Obama or Romney."
Will the Paul revolution vote for Johnson? From what I have read, it may be 50/50 due to some of the differences between Paul and Johnson. Most Paul freedom fighters are a stubborn, determined group. Like their mentor, they will not be swayed by anyone or anything if it goes against their core values, even if they are the last one standing against the crowd. Some have announced on YouTube, Twitter, Ron Paul forums, and Facebook that they have, and will still write in Ron Paul as they take Gary Johnson's quote seriously, "Wasting your vote is voting for somebody you don't believe in."

ps- Paul or Johnson (for me) doesnt matter... I see them as two advocates of the same set of principles. If paul was available I would vote him, yet as a write-in may or may not count... Johnson will be my choice. While I dont agree with all his points... I do agree with FAR more of his than tweedledee or tweedledum's.
Sure, I like Johnson on many issues over Obama and Romney (i.e., Obamney). I just happen to have two better choices (IMHO) than Johnson.
I must admit (and I am sure it is fairly obvious) that I would vote Johnson any day over Obama or Romney.
In my humble opinion though, I actually had two other options that I preferred over Johnson, one (of course) being Ron Paul and then the other Virgil Goode. Ron Paul may not be on the ballot, but that is what a write-in option is for.
Even though my state may not actually count my vote officially, I will know I voted for my top choice, those people I know on Facebook know I voted for him (because I took a picture of my mail-in ballot), and maybe my notarized paperwork through the WriteInRevolution team will help keep track of those folks voting for Ron Paul as well.
I am sure that there are a good many people who were Ron Paul supporters who are now going to vote for Johnson for different reasons: he's the Liberty choice on the ballot, he’s actually on the ballot, he endorsed Ron Paul in the last election, he is the best 3rd Party option so if enough votes go towards him this election cycle a 3rd Party could make some leeway in the next election cycle, and so forth.
Like a number of those folks that want to show their support for a 3rd Party candidate as a symbolic gesture to go against the “one-party” system (i.e., the establishment), I am choosing a 3rd Party candidate for that same reason but without compromise to my own beliefs and my belief in the best candidate for the Presidency.
I’ll end with a quote from John Quincy Adams: "Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost."
Kind regards,
Trevor
The elections are a fraud and have been rigged by the elitists (i.e., the 1%) from the beginning. We don't have a democracy and never really have. We have an illusion of a democracy. There is much written on the subject for those who care to educate themselves. Here is just one of many websites that provides a quick summary of what is, and has been, going on in this country, with respect to elections, from the beginning:

While it is likely impossible to ascertain the whole truth about anything, those who question everything and do their homework will be far closer to the truth than those who blindly accept whatever those who they look up to say and want them to believe.
It's clear (to anyone who investigates a little) that the Republican and Democratic parties are two sides of the same coin. The candidates in both parties have been groomed, and are controlled, by TPTB. Consequently, it matters not whether you vote for Romney or Obama, both are going to do what their puppet-masters demand and the public be damned. Dr. Paul was the only candidate that, I believe, they couldn't control so they made sure he was marginalized at every turn via their media shills.
While I joined the Republican Party at 18--mostly because my father was a Republican and I respected him greatly, I've always voted for the candidate who I thought had the best ideas. Yes, I was duped like most people for a very long time. However, I've since found (over the last decade or so) that the Libertarian Party is the one most closely aligned with my values so I want to do my part to help make this party viable.
Great points! Ever thought about writing? Why don't you post an article? Looks like you have an article or two just in the comments. You have some excellent points that people need to hear. =)
If everyone who has become aware, votes for Johnson and he gets 5%+, the LP will be elevated to Major Party Status. Three Major Parties (or maybe two, if you believe it's actually Republicrats).
Paul has stated several times that write ins have very little effect. However, a major third party is historical. You have the opportunity to cast a historical vote. It's sound political strategy and everyone in this movement should unite rather than be divided. Otherwise, what has it all been for? Rule 16, at the GOP National Convention, has slammed the door closed for any grassroots movement, forever.
The LP is the natural avenue for continuance of the movement, the party Dr Paul started in, and the party we can finish with. Let's keep this liberty train rolling. All aboard?
If the Good Doctor had won the Republican nomination, I would be supporting him to have the biggest chance of winning. However, Ron Paul will not be on the ballot and Gary Johnson will be. That alone would make me cast my vote for Johnson.
However, what KCTed said above is right as well - a 5% showing for Johnson gives the LP major party status in all 50 states (assuming no state is so far behind that it does not qualify there) and it opens up upwards to $100M dollars or so in financing for 2016. Then, Liberty-lovers will be playing on a much more even playing field with the D's and R's in four years and it's game on!
But to make that happen, Gary needs 5% this year. I think that's a pretty worthwhile reason for any Liberty-advocate to vote for Governor Johnson.

Peace! :O)
