On Thursday, neo-nuclear flame-thrower, Ann Coulter, took to conservative radio waves to condescendingly lecture the masses, who were appalled that she did, once again, call President Obama a “retard”.
Coulter came under intense backlash for sending out this juvenile tweet after Monday’s presidential debate:
"I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard."
The queen of insensitivity doubled-down on her use of the r-word on Alan Colmes’ Fox News Radio show yesterday. Coulter said she had no regret in calling the president a “retard” and she gave a defensive explanation that she simply meant he was a “loser”.
Coulter’s rambling explanation:
"Look, no one would refer to a Down syndrome child, someone with an actual mental handicap, by saying ‘retard.’ Where do you think the words ‘imbecile,’ ‘idiot,’ ‘moron,’ ‘cretin’ come from? These were all technical terms at one time. ‘Retard’ had been used colloquially to just mean ‘loser’ for 30 years…but no, no…these aggressive victims have to come out and tell you what words to use.”
Special Olympian, John Franklin Stephens, a Thirty-year-old Down syndrome athlete, wrote an open letter to Coulter, which exhibited far more class in a few sentences than she has shown in all of her conservative rants:
Mr. Stephens wrote, (in part) “…I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next. ...Well, Ms. Coulter, you need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor. No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much."
Colmes asked Coulter to respond to the Special Olympian’s message:
"It would be one thing if I said in my tweet a joke about Special Olympics, a joke about Down syndrome," she said. "No one would call someone with Down syndrome a ‘retard.’ I call you a ‘retard.'"
Additionally, Alan Colmes told Coulter the reason a lot of people were offended by her tweet was because they viewed the use of the word “retard” to be similarly belittling to the “n-word.”
Coulter scoffed at her detractors for such reasoning and referred to them as the “word police”, and basically said they should go screw themselves.
Ann Coulter is in the same gutter-league as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, who make their fortunes by appealing to the bigots and haters of the world.
Even Congress has banned the use of the words “retard” and “retardation” in favor of using “intellectual disability” or “intellectual development disorder” in future health, education and labor laws.
President Obama has none of those afflictions and never will, no matter how many demeaning labels animosity-baiters like Coulter want to throw at him.
Coulter should be ashamed of herself, except it is unlikely that “shame” is a word that exists in her vast irreverent vocabulary.
