Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney

2012 presidential election compaigns are the most expensive in the US history. Both the candidates, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have raised around two billions from their supporters.

It is legal in US to donate money to the election compaigns of the two major parties. Their is an upper limit to what a voter can donate to the presidential candidates. The upper limit is 2500 dollars.

Mitt Romney is very popular among the wall street people and they have donated many millions of dollars to his compaign because they think that the policies of Barack Obama are not favourable to them. Wall street wants a change and they want Mr Mitt Romney to be in the white house in future after winning elections on 6th of November 2012.

Barack Obama mostly got donations less than 200 dollars so he is popular among the middle class and the lower class people. On the other hand Mr Mitt Romney is popular among the rich people. Mitt Romney is himself a millionnare and he is from Massachusettes state and he is governor of that state. Mr Romney has spend his money in private sector throughout his life and he is promising the American people that he will generate 12 million jobs for American people if he is elected as president.

Mr Romney has generated donations from wealthy people who have donated 2500 dollars to his compaign which is the upper limit for donations.

Barack Obama has so far generated a little more than one billion for his compaign. On the other hand Mitt Romney has received donations of around 950 million dollars.

The money is legal as it is legal in US to receive donations from the voters. In this way anyone can donate to the candidates and play its role in the elections and can influence the result of the elections.

By giving money to the two parties, the voters feel as if they are playing a role in the elections. As if the voters are influencing the elections.

The money generated by the two candidates is spent on advertising. Thw two candidates advertise extensively on different forms of media including electric print and online cyber media.

The people who watch these advertisements get convinced of the two candidates and get to knoe the thoughts of the two candidates on different issues. The two candidates have their personal views and thoughts on different issues. Through advertisements, the candidates make their vies public and in this way influence the swing voters in their favour.

Good article Q.
Yes, elections are indeed an expensive proposition and loads of money is spent and wasted. BTW Obama himself is a millionaire (like Romney) and the bulk of his donations has come from other millionaire friends. Obama's policies have not been good for the country and it's time the country elected another one to get it out of this miserable state. Do check out another link as well for my article on a sillier related topic. Thanks.
