Matthew Fox won himself a legion of female fans after starring as the handsome doctor Jack Shephard in “Lost”. Now, the heartthrob is all set to win hearts with his new ripped and toned body after shedding a whopping 44lbs (20kg) for his new movie “Alex Cross”, in which he plays a serial killer.

The 46-year-old appears on the cover of Men’s Health magazine’s December issue and explains in the interview that he had to follow an intense workout regime to lose weight for his forthcoming film.

Matthew Fox, who plays a twisted serial killer in upcoming thriller “Alex Cross”, reveals to the publication that he couldn’t recognize himself when he saw his new look.

Dishing on the secrets of his weight loss regime, he tells the magazine, “When I read the part, it felt immediately that my character [serial killer Picasso] is burning energy on almost a hyper level,” according to a report by the Daily Mail.

“Without needing to spend any time in the gym he would just look like that,” he adds. “Almost disturbingly vascular and tendony, and f*****g just... weird. That would come from an enormous amount of energy burning inside this guy.”

Matthew, who lost nearly a fifth of his body weight for the role, explains to the tabloid, “I didn’t want to lose weight unhealthily, but I didn’t know how to do it any other way.”

He continues, “I read somewhere that when Christian Bale was preparing for The Machinist he ate nothing but an apple a day for months. Just one apple. That can’t be good for you.”

The handsome actor also reveals that apart from strict exercise routine, he followed a diet consisted mainly of chicken breast, steamed broccoli and protein shakes in order to shed the 20kg of body fat.

Although Matthew is immensely pleased with his amazing new body, he admits that he hated every minute of his tough exercise program.

He tells the magazine, “If I’m honest, sometimes I f*****g hated it. I guess if you removed the ‘result’ part of it then I can’t say I enjoyed it.”

He goes on, “But I did enjoy the results, and it made the whole thing worthwhile. It’s an empowering thing to realize just how much control we have over our bodies.”

Matthew says that he didn’t see the results on film until the pictures were published online and he was shocked by his amazing transformation. “I never watch my films while we’re making them, so when the images came out on the internet, someone sent it to me. I opened it up and was like ‘holy s**t’. I could hardly even believe it was me. But, it was exactly what I wanted to look like,” he says.
