Police keep Dortmund and Schalke fans apart

All three Bundesliga Clubs were successful, with wins by Munich over LOSC Lille 1-0, Dortmund defeating Real Madrid 2-1 and Schalke outscoring Arsenal 2-0.

At the completion of Matchday 3, Schalke leads Group B with 7 points, followed by Arsenal with 6. Borussia Dortmund leads Group D with 7 over Real Madrid's six points. Group F is in a three way tie with BATE Borisov, Bayern Muenchen and Valencia with a tally of six points.

LOSC Lille vs Bayern Muenchen 0-1

Bayern went into the lead in the 20th minute with a penalty kick, executed Thomas Mueller. Mueller calmly pushes the ball into the right lower corner of the net, while Lille's keeper went for the opposite corner. That goal was enough to secure the three points for the Bavarians. The match throughout was combative and Lille pushed for the equalizer, but seldom pushed forward. The return matches, with a group this close, will be interesting.

Arsenal vs Schalke 04 0-2

Schalke walked away with three points from the Emirates with goals by Huntelaar (76th minute) and Affelay (82nd minute). Huntelaar`s goal came from a block by the gunner`s Lukas Podolski, which bounce into the air, near Abrahim Afellay, who in turn headed it to Klaas-Jan Huntellar. The Dutch striker remained calm and fired leather low into the target.

Affelay struck for Schalke for the second time in the 82nd minute, when Roman Neustaedter won the ball in midfield and moved quickly in the direction of the Arsenal goal. At the penalty area he passed the ball to the right to Farfan, who passed into the 5 meter area. Affelay was in location to find the net for the 2-0 lead.

Schalke played a strong defensive game, which denied the gunners any opportunity to penetrate. A well executed, disciplined match assured the victory for Schalke. The team leads Group B with a point lead over Arsenal.

Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid 2-1

This was a hard fought match by two of Europe`s top teams. Despite ample opportunities on both sides and Real with the advantage in the possession game, Robert Lewandowski got the go ahead goal for Dortmund in the 36th minute. Pepe`s misplaced pass, proved the opportunity for Kehl to capture the ball, Lewandowsky received Kehl`s pass on the move and with only keeper Casillo in front of him, hammered the ball in the far right corner.

Two minutes later, in the 38th minute, Mesut Oezil found the sprinting Ronaldo, who fired the ball into the target for the 1-1 equalizer.

In the second half Dortmund got the go ahead goal, when Casillo feasted a ball out of the danger area. The ball landed at the feet of Dortmund`s defender Schmelzer, who took a volley shot to put the ball away, in the 64th minute for a 2-1 Dortmund lead.

After a slow start during the opening minutes of the game, Dortmund found its form and played disciplined game. They played a compact, tactical match. Although it was a narrow win, Dortmund proved that they can play the best clubs in Europe.

Matchday 4 goes on Nov. 6-7. Schalke will host Arsenal in Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund travels to Madrid. Bayern Muenchen host LOSC Lille in the Allianz arena on Nov. 7.

All three Bundesliga clubs have a relatively good chance to move beyond the group stage. Matchday 3 was an overwhelming success for the German teams.
