With the ongoing protests by some Muslim organizations to condemn the alleged attacks on Muslims in Myanmar and Assam riots, Raj Thackeray on Tuesday led his supporters march in a rally against the terrorist attacks by some Muslim hardliners on Mumbaikars in the wake of recent terror attacks of August 11.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) headed by Raj Thackeray intended taking a rally led by thousands of MNS supporters who were expected to gather at Azad Maidan. Though grant for the permission for the rally which was to start from Girgaum Chowpatty was denied apprehending breach of peace, Thackeray bent his political muscles and mustered thousands of his supporters at Azad Maidan for a public meet. The police however did not attempt to detain either Thackeray or his supporters when they assembled at Chowpatty for the march. Keeping the situation into consideration Mumbai police alerted its staff and made special arrangements to check that the situation remains under control.

There was a large gathering of MNS supporters as they were seen carrying the party's blue, saffron and green colored flags with its election symbol Train Engine embossed in the middle. Gathered at the Girgaum Chowpatty they patiently waited for their fearless leader Raj Thackeray to join them in a symbolic march to protest against the violence on Aug 11 and alleged failure of the state administration and Mumbai police to control it. Thousands of policemen were deployed to keep a track of the situation and traffic was regulated in the wake of MNS protest. The rally’s main aim was to protest against the killing of the two demonstrators and 52 others including policemen and injured media persons when a protest against alleged persecution of Muslims in Assam had turned violent. Thackeray amidst the ongoing protest demanded dismissal of state's Home Minister R R Patil and Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik as he believes that they had remained incompetent to control the whole situation. News reports indicate that Raj Thackeray was not protesting to initiate the removal of either RR Patil or Arup Patnaik , it is all about playing a political stunt to steadily climb a political graph.

Raj is said to have broaden his base by taking up such an issue and capturing the Hindutva plank of Bal Thackeray’s party too, though he has been persistently denying to advance the cause of Hindutva and its propagation for political gains.
