The funeral of Wissam al-Hassan who was killed in the huge Beirut car bomb attack on Friday became be the focus for a huge rally by opponents to the Syrian backed Lebanese government.

The Martyrs Square funeral was be attended by thousands of mourners-cum-protesters whi believe that the bomb attack on a predominantly Christian area of beirut was instigated by Syria.

Protesters believe that it was no coincidence that the bomb happened to kill Mr Hassan. They believe that he was actively targetted by Syrian backed terrorists after he had brought about the arrest of one of Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime's top supporters in the Lebananon.

There is widespread anger from the many who believe that Syria guided and financed Friday's horrific attack that killed seven others in addition to Mr Hassan. Many feel that the ruling Hezbollah government has to now come out strongly in condemming any Syrian involvement in the attack or in fact resign.

Mr Hassan was burried next to former Lebanese president Rafik al-Hariri who was assasinated in 2005 in what was again thought to be a Syrian backed attack.
