Moussa Ibrahim, the late Muammar Gaddafi's smooth talking frontman, has been captured almost exactly year since Gaddafi himself was found hiding in a storm drain and killed.
Ibrahim was thought by many to have been killed at or around the same time as there had been no confirmed sightings of him since that time. It now seems that he has been in hiding just a metaphorical stones throw from the Libyan capital.
The Libyan prime minister's office said in a statement:
"Moussa Ibrahim was arrested at a checkpoint in the town of Tarhouna and is being taken to Tripoli where he will be handed over to the pertinent authorities to begin questioning."
The deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abu Shagur was so excited that on hearing the news almost immeadiatly tweeted: "Criminal Moussa Ibrahim was arrested and he is now on his way to Tripoli."
Moussa acted as the mouthpiece of the Gaddafi regime mixing with foreign journalists at the expensive Rixos Hotel where many of them were based, feeding them pro-Gaddafi propoganda with an elegant smile as though butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Later almost all his pronouncements wwere found to be toxic lies.
British educated Moussa revvelled in stories of Nato bombing atrocities often waking the foreign press corps in the early hours of the morning to minibus them to see what he claimed were the Nato bomb casualities of women and children.
The area where Moussa was arrested, Tarhouna, on the outskirts of Tripoli, was a well known as housing a Gaddafi supporting community. Terrorist attacks on Tripoli have been linked back to the town.
Libyan security forces were known to have been engaged in military action in the area in the lead up to Moussa's arrest. He will be questioned in Tripoli before, no doubt, undergoing a public trial, something his master, Muammar Gaddafi never got.
