Tory Burch, the renowned American fashion designer, business woman and philanthropist, has revealed that she started her business from her kitchen. Burch, who was born, raised and educated in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, talked about her humble beginnings on “Rock Center with Brian Williams” on Thursday night.
Burch’s efforts have materialized her business into one of the most viable businesses in the fashion industry. It is worth $2 billion in less than a decade. In the interview, she talked about how she started with small steps that helped her take giant leaps later. She said she actually designed clothes, shoes and accessories in her kitchen until she could afford opening up a store in Manhattan.
According to Rock Center, "Tory was also raising six children, three from her marriage with Chris Burch and three from Chris’s previous marriage. But, despite her reservations, Tory and her ex-husband Chris put up $2 million to launch the company. Chris also helped her raise another $10 million through investors, and with this capital, the Tory Burch label was born.
Tory’s brand, now estimated to be worth upward of $2 billion, began in her kitchen. The first New York storefront opened in 2004, and Tory worked from her apartment for the next two years, until she had about 16 employees."
Burch began a fashion label in February 2004. Her designs were different and hence gained popularity. Her label was also featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” a year later after she had launched it. Her labels are now sold in huge fancy department stores and the company also has 36 stores, four of which are outlet stores in Woodbury Commons, NY; San Marcos, TX; Camarillo, CA and Orlando, FL Premium Outlets.
Tory Burch is not only popular in the US. She has over 20 Tory Burch stores internationally and her fashion line is carried at over 1,000 department and specialty stores worldwide. Her business is continuously growing with positive returns by every passing year. Tory’s hard work and success have also earned her several international fashion awards and accolades.
Tory Burch produces caftans, sequined cardigans, tunics, children's swimwear, jewelry, handbags, shoes, and sunglasses.
