Clayton New Jersey. A mother and child were seriously injured on Friday when a vehicle they were traveling in collided with a freight train.

A CSX freight train traveling south collided with a Toyota Camry driven by a 28 year old mother and her infant child at the intersection of South Broad Street and West Chestnut Street in Clayton New Jersey.

The police report said there was rain in the area. The vehicle was hit by the freight train when the vehicle was on the railroad tracks trying to cross.

The mother and child were taken to Cooper University Hospital. They are in serious condition at this time.

Investigators said the crossing system green and red lights were functioning at the time of the accident. It is unclear if the driver may have been driving impaired or just made an error trying to cross the tracks while the signals were working.

There have complants from the persons living in the area that the railroad crossing wher the accident happened does not have a crossing gate.

The names of the two victims have not been released to the public

That is true. It is not a good idea to cross a railroad crossing while the signals are telling you to stop. Never try to beat a train at a railroad crossing. The odds of survival are not good.

Difficult grieving who is wrong in a situation like that rain. A mother must not want anything bad happening to a child. I conveyed sympathy to the mother and the child. Hopefully healthy and can work quickly again. Thank you George. Best Regard.

I also hope they recover from their injuries after the train collision as well.
