Soldiers from the Yemeni army leave their post after they drove Al-Qaeda fighters out of the city of Jaar in June 2012

At least seven members of Al-Qaeda were killed on Thursday in a drone attack near the town of Jaar, southern Yemen. "A drone, probably American, fired several missiles at a group of members of Al-Qaeda in the northwest of Jaar killed everyone," said a source from the local government.

According to a local coordinator of the Popular Resistance Committees, the site of the attack is an area where members of Al-Qaeda gather to perform attacks on the committees and the army itself.

The town of Ja'ar was controlled by ansar al Sharia, a group affiliated withAl Qaeda, from March 2011 to June 2012. However, on 12 June 2012, the Yemeni army restored control of Ja'ar along with Zinjibar
