Matt Carpenter Cards Hero In Game Three

St. Louis Cardinals 3 San Francisco Giants 1

Matt Carpenter didn't expect to play in game three of the NLCS but that all changed when Carlos Beltran strained his left knee in the first inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Carpenter came up to bat in his first career post-season at bat and it's not likely that he will ever forget it. With the Giants ahead 1-0, Carpenter smacked a two run homer which ended up being the difference in a 3-1 St. Louis victory. The game was delayed three hours and twenty-eight minutes with St. Louis up 3-1 and batting in the bottom of the seventh inning. There were no more runs scored when play finally resumed. Kyle Lohse got the win for the Cards with Jason Motte picking up the save. Matt Cain takes the loss for the Giants. The Cardinals now lead the series 2-1 with game four going on Thursday night at 8pm EST in St. Louis. Tim Lincecum is set to start for San Francisco while Adam Wainwright will start for St. Louis.
