File this under “things you never really want to know”.
Academy Award winner shared a bit of her history with Elle Magazine. Before she became a well-known name, she was doing all she could to get noticed, so it makes sense that someone would subject her by having a “casting couch” audition.
(In case you didn’t know, directors would sometimes attempt to have young ingenues do just about anything to get their names in lights, usually by getting them on their back.)
She shared one occurrence of it while on an audition in New York City back in the day:
“I just went into a room, and a guy practically threw me on the desk,” the 66-year-old said. “It was my early days in New York, and it was really disgusting. It wasn’t like I gave it a second though, it was so badly done. It was not successful — for either of us.”
I’m guessing neither one of them got what they wanted. But she’s done pretty well for herself since, being nominated for six Oscars and winning one for Dead Man Walking.
