Actor and emcee Gary Collins died in the early hours of October 13, 2012 of natural causes in Biloxi, Mississippi at the age of 74.

He was born Gary Ennis Collins on April 30, 1938 in Venice, California. Before coming to Hollywood, Collins was a radio and television performer for the Armed Forces Network during his time in the Army.

Known for his role as the emcee on the popular “Miss America Pageants” in the eighties, Collins won an Emmy Award in 1983 as the Outstanding Talk Show Host.

Throughout his career Collins appeared in nearly 100 television shows and films – both as himself and as various characters. Among the numerous roles as himself Collins appeared as a performer in “Circus of the Stars” four times and as the ringleader once, “Family Feud”, “Star Search”, “Gimme a Break!”, 21 episodes of “Hour Magazine”, 15 episodes of “The New Hollywood Squares”, eleven episodes of “The Home Show”, “Friends”, “Dharma & Greg”, and as the emcee for several “Miss America Pageants.

Collins also appeared in over 60 TV shows and movies including 29 episodes of “The Wackiest Ship in the Army”, two episodes of “Perry Mason”, 43 episodes of “Iron Horse”, “The Virginian”, two episodes of “Ironside”, an episode of the original “Hawaii Five-O”, “Marcus Welby, M.D.”, 26 episodes of “The Sixth Sense”, four episodes of “Love, American Style”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, 13 episodes of “Born Free”, “The Bionic Woman”, two episodes of “Police Story”, “Roots”, two episodes of “The Love Boat”, two episodes of the original “Charlie’s Angels”, three episodes of “Fantasy Island”, an episode of “JAG”, “The Young and the Restless”, and his final role in “Dirty Sexy Money”.

Collins is survived by his wife for Miss America Mary Ann Mobley and children Guy, Mimi, and Mary.
