The Game 1 of ALCS between Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees are all set for 2012 MLB Playoff. Check this page for Tigers vs Yankees game recap.
Yankees play with no rest after they clinches ALDS in Game 5 yesterday beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 behind CC Sabathia's complete game. Sabathia pitched a four-hitter, eluding the bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning for his first complete game in 17 postseason start.
However, the Yankees will start Andy Pettitte (0-1, 3.86 ERA) in the ALCS Game 1 tonight after giving up three runs over seventh inning in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Orioles. Pettitte will face Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera who is one of the favorites to win the MVP.
But the 3-time MVP Alex Rodriguez is doubtful in the New York Yankees lineup unless he gets out of slump. Rodriguez was benched in Game 5 against the Orioles after Yankees manager Joe Girardi had pinch hit for Rodriguez late in the previous two games. In Game 3, pinch-hitter Raul Ibanez hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning and another homer in the 12th to win it. Rodriguez is 2 for 16 with nine strikeouts in the series.
Actually not only A-Rod who struggles in bats, New York hitters like Robinson Cano is 2 for 22, Nick Swisher is 2 for 18 while Curtis Granderson improved to 3 for 19 after a solo-homer against Troy Patton in the seventh on Friday.
Ichiro Suzuki added a crucial RBI double off the right-center field wall in the sixth to add boost on Yankees October batting woes. Yankees won six of 10 meetings in the 2012 MLB regular season, with Granderson posting team highs of four homers and 12 RBIs as ESPN reports.
Meanwhile, Detroit Tigers will open the NLCS with one day rest will start right-hander Doug Fister (0-0, 2.57) today . Fister yielded two runs over seven innings Sunday but did not get a decision in a 5-4 win against the A's. He went 1-1 with a 6.52 ERA in two division series games against New York last year. Detroit batters lead by triple-crown winner Miguel Cabrera, backup with dangerous hitters Prince Fielder and Delmon Young. Carrera and Fielder combined for eight homers and 18 RBIs in their previous NLCS series. Young is 13 for 24 against Andy Pettitte including postseason.
Yankees stadium host five straight MLB postseason games including Game 2 on Sunday. Check this page later for Tigers vs Yankees live score updates and highlights.
