Cincinnati Ohio. Major League Baseball officials granted permission to the Cincinnati Reds management to remove from the National League Division Series (NLDS) roster right handed ace pitcherfrom their post season roster and replace him with right handed pitcher Mike Leake who will pitch the fourth game of the playoffs versus the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday in Cincinnati.
Cueto on Saturday night in San Francisco injured muscles on his side of the first game of the playoffs in the first inning. The Reds were expecting Cueto to recover in time to pitch in game four but Cueto has not fully recovered from his injury. The Reds lead the best of five playoff series 2-1.
Cueto will not be eligible to pitch in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) if the Reds can win one of the two remaining games against the Giants in Cincinnati against the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals who are the defending World Series champions or the upstart Washington Nationals.
Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Cueto who won 19 games in the 2012 Major League Baseball season who only pitch one game in the NLCS.
