Republican racism revealed in Ohio, Pennsylvania

Do you need any more “evidence” of the discriminatory intent of these so-called “voter ID” laws than the Ohio Secretary of State’s appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court? This ground has been plowed so much now that actual crops (votes) are beginning to sprout. Here on Allvoices.com, steady reports have documented this nationwide phenomenon, most of them against, but a few in favor of “voter ID” efforts.

The Republican Secretary of State, Jon Husted, has finally decided to appeal the 6th Circuit Court’s decision to restore “early voting” to all Ohio voters. This comes on the heels of a similar decision by a Pennsylvania court just a couple of weeks ago to knock down “voter ID” laws in that state. Republican Party-affiliated leaders there are spearheading those efforts as well.

Even more damning, however, is a recent study indicating that the citizens most affected by these laws just happen to be black, brown and likely members of the Democratic Party. What gets me is how “certain people” continue to deny that this whole process is race-based – not even politically or partisan-based. White Democratic Party areas are not so targeted, you see.

This kind of denial of evidence that slaps you in the face reveals a deeper problem. This kind of denial is akin to the ostrich which sticks its head in the sand hoping that the big, bad lion won’t see it, because he refuses to see the lion. The problem of white racism won’t go away and will not be overcome until it is confronted openly, directly by white people themselves. This is not a “black” problem. Black people, brown people, red people, yellow people – all are fine with being just “people.” It is the white folks who seem to have a problem with the rest of us. There is a “white” attitude that has acted as a drag on the whole of humanity for at least a couple of thousand years now.

And it must stop. You see, the world yearns to move forward; but this sort of thing…this “I gotta always be on top” sorta thing is holding everybody back, even white folks themselves.

One not so small example, beyond this latest voting scam that Republicans have concocted, is capitalism itself. Isn’t it clear by now that “capitalism” only works to empower and enrich a few and impoverish the rest? Both locally, and globally. Isn’t “white racism/white supremacy” built into capitalism’s DNA? That is, globally, why is the white 20 percent of the world’s population living in relative luxury at the expense of the dark 80 percent? Why do the same proportions and percentages obtain locally – everywhere -- as well?

What these “voter ID” and other versions of voter suppression are designed to do is to maintain white suptremacy in this nation. Obama has upset the applecart, and the hardcore racists cannot handle it. They have come together, united, and now intend to “take back” what is rightfully theirs – by any means necessary.

Let me be clear. The reason Obama probably will not win has nothing whatever to do with policy differences between him and Romney. It has everything to do with white racism and white supremacy – which, as black people know only too well – will stop at nothing to maintain that supremacy.

Your Analogy that Voter'ID'is racism in reverse."ID" is required by most democratic countries and ID is also required for almost everything including entitlement claims.

Discrimination with voter ID is becoming so obvious, even the people instituting it are starting to admit it's racist. At this point, it's really hard to believe that anyone who's been paying attention doesn't see what's going on here. It's like fixing a horse race.

It's pretty obvious at this point that discrimination is at the core of voter ID. Even the people promoting these laws are admitting they are racist.

Sorry Mary Ann... that's absolutely not true.

So maybe you an explain why you really believe that black and brown citizens are somehow too inept to obtain identification? I think that's racist in and of itself. I believe in your people; it's a real shame you don't...

The notion that someone who is conservative is automatically a racist is offensive. Let me remind you that President Obama won by an overwhelming majority in 2008, which required the vote of whites of all political persuasions. Unfortunately those voters were disappointed by the presidents promises that he could not deliver.

Voter ID is a no brainer. It is required by most modern democracies. To link that to racism is absurd. When you require ID for almost anything in your day to day life, how is requiring someone to show ID to prove his/her eligibility to vote not appropriate. In some cases, states have even made those IDs available free of charge.

In Canada we even require two pieces of ID at the polling station, one with a picture and another to prove where we live, such as a hydro bill. IDs are required to open a bank account, file entitlement claims and in most cities for monthly bus passes.

To push this racist position is not conducive to people working together and become colour blind. Personally I have a good relationship with people of all ethnicity and colour. I find posts like this offensive.

Herbert, some people use dissimulation and believe in being indifferent towards the frequency which all human beings operate on. However, the quality of a country's soil very much affects the forming of its government.
Whites and blacks eat, live and coexist on that same soil. Therefore, in reality, they must all be connected to it as it is indeed, an identical frequency. Blacks alone cannot be made slaves to cultivate that soil, so that whites can survive their own race. Intuitively that is the root caused of racism.
Naturally, some blacks would rise and want to be shared partisan to form its government. The whites can deny all they like, to shunt what is obvious, and whenever racism is the issue. However, looking back at history, it is a proven fact for sure, blacks are no quitters. And it’s time for whites to start realizing who is the one with the problem and who is insulting progress for Americans to advance.

My problem with the voter ID laws is pretty simple: I believe that they have been implemented way too fast and will disenfranchise tens of thousands (if not more) eligible voters. The "fraud" claims by the GOP have been thoroughly debunked, but we know from the 2000 election that in Florida, at least, several thousand African American voters were disenfranchised because of attempts to "clean up" the voter rolls.

If states want to implement voter ID laws, they need to look at how many eligible voters will be disenfranchised by the new rules. That number, I am afraid, will be much higher than any imaginary "voter fraud" numbers that the GOP can dream up.

None of the fraud claims have been debunked... it's been clearly demonstrated that the possibility is there. There is nothing in the Voter ID laws that can disenfranchise anyone unless they wish it. It merely takes some effort. A state ID is obtainable by everyone.

The possibility, yes. The proof it has happened, no.

On the other hand, we know for a fact -- and I return to Florida in 2000 as my example -- that several thousand black voters were disenfranchised that year, ostensibly as a result of Katherine Harris cleaning up the voter rolls. But when the "clean up" leads to more actual abuse of voting rights than the "possibility" of a problem, then it's no fix at all. It's a sham.

Punditty,

If that was the argument made in this report, then I can accept that. I cannot accept the notions of racism. The president was elected by a wide majority, including all races. There were four years to sort out the voter ID laws. Surely for a country that can fly to the moon and explore Mars, this is not insurmountable.

Although democrats have no problem showing ID to cash a check or even get into the Democrat National Convention, they scream "Racism" when it comes to requiring legitimate identification for casting a ballot? BS!
The only reason for suppressing the validation of the votes is to make sure the illegal votes are counted because those help the democrat party's numbers. If only legitimate votes were counted, Obama and Company would never had the opportunity to begin drastically demolishing America.
Bottom line is this: VOTER ID LAWS ARE IN PLACE TO KEEP THE VOTING PROCESS LEGITIMATE.
Hence, by even suggesting that the laws are racial when they apply equally to all regardless of "race", you make yourself to be the racist.
