India's indigenous Akash Missile Air Defence System
Tests of the akash surface-to-air missile (SAM) which were carried out in 2007! It can intercept incoming missiles, warplanes, drones within a range of 30km & each battery can track 64 targets & simultaneously attack 12 of those. The missile uses ramjet technology which propels it up-to speeds of mach 3.5. The system is used by the Indian Air Force. Recently the Indian Army too followed suit & placed orders for a customized version to suit its needs. It will complement the Indo-Israeli Barak 8 (which has a range of over 100km), the SPYDER LLQR (range 15 km) The Maitri LLQR, the Prithvi Air defence system (PAD), & Advanced Air Defence Missile (AAD) & the S-300 as India's air defence & anti-ballistic missile sheild.
