"'s Drag Race" contestant Sahara Davenport, also known as Antoine Ashley, has passed away. He was an integral part of the show and his viewers, friends and well-wishers are quite saddened by his death.
"RuPaul's Drag Race" is an American reality television series produced by World of Wonder for Logo. RuPaul plays host, mentor and inspiration for this series, which details RuPaul's search for America's next drag superstar. The network also shared their condolences on the sad demise of Sahara Davenport.
According to People, Logo posted the following message in remembrance of Sahara Davenport's death on Facebook.
"Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport. He was an amazing artist and entertainer who'll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.”
RuPaul also expressed his grief about Davenport’s death via Twitter. He tweeted, "Shocked & heartbroken over @SaharaDavenport. Never occurred to me that we'd ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal”.
Sahara Davenport was a contestant on the show back in 2010. He competed against 11 other contestants. It was a great journey for him, as he overcame many interesting challenges on the show. After a great experience, Davenport was eliminated in the sixth episode for not conveying enough of a "rock 'n roll" attitude and being too much of a lady.
Sahara Davenport was a multitalented individual. He was a classically trained dancer. His dancing roots grew when he started performing in drag while attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He completed his Bachelors of Fine Arts in dance and moved to New York to perform as a drag at various bars and nightclubs. Davenport also had the honor of appearing on television on A&E Network's "15 Films about Madonna", Voom HD's "Magnificent Obsessions", and on ABC's daytime soap opera "One Life to Live". He also released a single called "Go Off", which even reached no. 35 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
Davenport’s boyfriend, Karl Westerberg, competed on season three of "RuPaul's Drag Race" as Manila Luzon. He is extremely sad to lose a great partner. To express his love for him, he tweeted, "I love him so much."
