Hong Kong Ferry Sinks Following Collision, 36 Dead
This incident happened in Hongkong and this is all about a collision between two ferries made ​, thirty-six dead and a hundred injured Monday night in Hong Kong, in congested waters boats during fireworks national holiday in China, announced Tuesday authorities. The accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. (2:23 GMT) Monday when a bus liaison between the center of Hong Kong and Lamma Island, located three kilometers rammed a ship carrying employees of the company electricity and their families. More than 120 people were aboard the boat hit which sank in a few minutes, by the stern and the bow which only emerged. "Twenty-eight people died on the spot and eight were declared dead on arrival at the hospital," said the Hong Kong government said in a statement when a previous review reported 25 deaths. Warned 8:23 p.m. (24:23 GMT), firefighters arrived on the scene twenty minutes later and recovered the first body in rough seas. "After ten minutes at sea, a ship hit ours on the side at high speed.'s Back (the ship) started sinking," one survivor told the South China Morning Post. "I suddenly found at the bottom of the sea I swam quickly to try to catch a lifesaver. I do not know where my two children," he said. The final death toll could be higher then a hundred people were injured, nine were in serious or critical condition, according to firefighters. The search continued into the night near Lamma, where the accident took place, to ensure that no passengers were trapped in the wreckage and recover any survivors adrift. "But poor visibility and many obstacles on board (...) have hampered operations", said the fire, adding that 28 ships, two helicopters and 20 ambulances were mobilized. According to the local TV station RTHK, children are among the victims. Police said she did not yet know the cause of the collision. "We will investigate because we understand the reasons for the accident," said Chief Executive of Hong Kong Leung Chun-ying, having visited survivors in hospital. Lamma Island is the third island of the autonomous territory of Hong Kong Chinese by area. About 5,000 people live there, including many expatriates who commute daily to work by ferry to the island of Hong Kong.
