In his new Memoir, "Total Recall: My Unbelievable True Life Story", actor and former California Governoradmits having an affair with Brigitte Nielson while the two starred together in the 1985 movie, “Red Sonja”. While the affair eventually ended, Schwarzenegger says it made him realize he wanted to marry , with whom he split last year.
In his memoir, the action hero says that he not only cheated on his wife, Maria Shriver, with their former housekeeper, Mildred Baena, in 1997 and fathered her child, but also admits having a “hot affair” with actress Brigitte Neilson while he was living with and dating Maria Shriver.
Schwarzenegger, who describes the relationship as “a fling,” says it only brought him closer to Shriver.
Last year, Neilson revealed the affair in her memoir, “You Only Get One Life”, and it was only a matter of time that Schwarzenegger admitted it as well. Neilson claimed the she did not know that Schwarzenegger was already dating someone else during their affair.
"How serious it was with [Shriver], I don't know," Nielsen told U.K.’s Daily Mail last year. "He never spoke about her — and the way he was living his life with me, I felt I was the only one. Then I realized about him and Maria and, wow, I felt cheated."
She called their relationship “outrageous” based on some “energy” between them since both of them knew that it will only last till the shooting ends. “We both knew that when the film was finished, so were we," Nielsen writes. "Time was limited so we didn't hold back - we really made the most of it. The set lights would barely be off before we disappeared to do our thing. We wanted time to ourselves and we wanted to try everything. And when we were alone, that's exactly what we did."
Schwarzenegger and Maria split last year when the actor revealed that he had cheated with their maid. In his memoir, he also say that he regrets the pain he caused to his family due to the affair and hopes that they would reconcile their differences at some point in time.
Schwarzenegger is set for an interview with “60 Minutes” to be aired on Sunday. In the interview, the actor is expected to reveal much more on the affair, his time as California’s governor and his life with Maria Shriver and their four children.
