Singer Andy Williams has died at his home in Branson, Missouri from bladder cancer at the age of 84. Andy was closely linked to the song Moon River written by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini which he sang at the 1962 Academy Awards. Originally sang by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, Moon River won the Oscar for Best Original Song as well as the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. Andy named his production company and his theater in Branson after the song.
Williams was a headliner in Las Vegas for many years performing mostly at Caesar's Palace. He opened the hotel's Circus Maximus Room in 1966 and performed regularly there until the mid 1980's. He also had a successful run on television on The Andy Williams Show which ran from 1962-71. Andy was also a close personal friend to Robert and Ethel Kennedy and was in the Ambassador Hotel on the night in 1968 that RFK was assassinated. He also sang at the funeral.
Andy was married to Claudine Longet from 1961-75 and is survived by three children from that marriage. He has been married to Debbie Meyer since 1991.
