Water cannon battle video: Japan clashes with Taiwan flotilla
Japanese coastguard vessels - armed with loudspeakers and fire hoses - closed in on a Taiwanese fishing fleet of some 60 boats as it neared the disputed East China Sea islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. Heavy seas made contact between hostile crews seem inevitable, but strong winds dissipated much of the water cannon jet before it could take effect on the bare decks of the little fishing boats.
